Backstory

Merlyn and the quest for Godhood

Thousands of years ago there exist a mage-king known as Merlyn. Via powerful sorceries intended for reaching supremacy, he created the scroll of the all-knowing knowledge, which served to gather all the knowledge that was, is and will ever be.

But such a vast amount of information would never be able to be contained within the finite state. Seeing the need to contain all of those information he dumped the scroll into another plane, which became Allknown - the plane of knowledge.

For unknown reason, or perhaps upon reaching omnipotence, Merlyn disappeared without a trace, leaving only vague writings mentioning the plane of knowledge. Such mentions have became the obsession of generations of magi and scholars, all seeking to claim the power of the all-knowing scrolls.

First contact

After hundred of years of research, a portal-gate was open to attempt and reach into the plane. The sight unveiled was the most phenomenal and bizarre, such amount of information drive the scholar crazy. Those with sanity still intact tells of a vast and endless space of undecipherable words which seems to speak directly into the mind of those who witnesses.

Seeing that it is impossible to comprehend the scope of the Allknown, the scholars decided to close the portal for good, but not before fragments of it entered our world. The result are a rainbow colored "contamination" that seeps into books and writings all over the world. Those book that contaminated are called Raw Lore, for it bears strange and unknown magical quantity. Such books can attune the raw mana and refined it into strange purpose, or causing strange phenomenon by itself.

College Infinium

Under the behest of the sovereign states, the College Infinium was formed to seek and claim all the Raw Lore, make effective use of it and seal away those they deemed too dangerous. For this purpose, each state has their own representors within the College. These are the most elite of the scholars and warriors each has to offers, and their purpose are to provide assist to the College in their quest, but more importantly - to spy.

For hundreds of Raw Lore pieces claimed, some of them are powerful indeed, and even worth fighting over. For that reason, nations might pay a large sum for the College to turn a blind eye on them, given that it is within accept safety. There are a certain rules:

Theme and general design

Pre-WW1 aesthetic with more fantasy elements.

Gunpowder are not as developed since magic exist, and often bundled into a portable chamber and loaded into pistols with extended handles.

Magic are usually low magic, which is more raw and unpredictable. Magic is made by converting a mana contained within the magi or from a mana battery, and refine it into the caster's purpose. The most popular form of magical display are force, elemental, mind attuning or just mana burning.

The college

The college is formed of librarians, whom are formidable magis and sages whom spent life on researching the Allspace: sage librarians. Their task is to keep track of all the collect Raw Lore and safely contain them within the library's sanctum. All six librarians are to manage the college's operations, from assigning collective duty, containment and organization, to deciphering and researching the specific uses of each Raw Lore.

At the head of the sage librarians are the headmaster, whom manages the foreign factor of the college. Because the states manage a paper thin relationships for each others, the college became the most diplomatic vantage offered to the alliance.

Besides the funding from the alliance, the college maintains a not-so-subtle trade in forbidden knowledges. For each of the Raw Lore them deemed not threatening enough, they might auction it off to all the competing states, each wanting to find an advancing edge over its rivals.

Student Extractor

Served as travelling agents, the Student Extractor use the college's authority to reclaim Raw Lore recently discovered by the college.

The students are found from truly individuals children with no allegiance to outsiders or the alliance states. They are fitted into houses and classes with their own instructors and are trained under the magical lore attuned by the librarians themselves. The agent students will then be sent to recovering missions, so that they can hone their skills as well as preparing themselves to inherit the librarians' mantles and form the next generation

The assignments are varied and undoubted contains many obstacles, but by far the most challenges came from the rivalling schools from the same college. Each having their own agencies on the trade of information, this rivalries help pushed the Student Extractor to be come the most excelled force of the College.

Appearance and doctrines

The student extractor wear the color of deep blue, with white undergarment and an accent of violet purple. The colors stand for white as their purity of purpose, deep blue of adamantine will in their pursuit of knowledge, and violet for the glimmering genius and strive for excellence.

Their symbols is a single gold bronze bracer that they well kept hidden beneath their cloth. The bracelet is usually decorated with very personal notes, and are very popular as a casting focus for the college mages.

The college doctrines are very loose when it comes to practical combat, for the academy encourage its student to find their own power within the known and unknown magical lore. For this reason, there are a very wide variety of magic users as well as martial practitioners. With the mage being popular for the younger prodigies, while fighters are popular for the less arcane educated members.
